Two Off Road Vehicle Crashes Injure Two In Derry And Pittsfield

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Fish and Game Officers responded to two off-road vehicle crashes over the weekend that left the riders injured.

In Derry, on Saturday a single male OHRV operator was injured as a result of his rear tire detaching from his four-wheeled ATV, causing the OHRV to tip over while traveling westbound on the Rockingham Recreation Trail in Derry.

Michael O’Leary 46, of Dracut, Massachusetts, was traveling west along the Rockingham Recreation Trail in Derry, in the area of Mill Road. O’Leary attempted to navigate around a fire gate when the rear tire of his OHRV detached from the machine. O’Leary attempted to gain control of the vehicle but was unable to and the OHRV tipped over, trapping his leg beneath it. Passersby rendered aid and notified 911 of the crash.

Derry Police, Derry Fire, and a New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officer were notified of the incident at about 11 a.m. and responded to the scene.

O’Leary suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries

Although this crash is still under investigation, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department would like to remind all riders to always complete safety checks of their equipment prior to operation and to use due care and caution at all times when operating OHRV’s.

Sunday New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to a single side-by-side (UTV) crash involving a female operator and 1 female passenger on private property in Pittsfield.

Tara Mardones, 35, of Pittsfield was operating a side by side (UTV) in a private field in Pittsfield. While attempting to navigate a turn in the field, Mardones rolled the UTV. Mardones sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The single passenger did not sustain any injury during the crash.

Fish and Game personnel, Pittsfield Police Department, and Pittsfield Ambulance responded to the scene. Pittsfield Ambulance transported Mardones to Concord Hospital.

Fish and Game would like to remind everyone to ride within their capabilities and always wear safety equipment while operating.
