MERRIMACK, NH — It's almost time to celebrate America's independence this week, and Merrimack has lots in store for July 4 celebrations. Also of note this week is the Planning Board's upcoming review of proposed new apartments and a chat with the town assessor. Here are the top five things to know in Merrimack this week.

  1. Expect traffic delays on Bedford Road between Pearson Road and Catskill Drive due to bridge construction this week. Two flaggers will be on site as one-way alternating traffic will be implemented during daytime hours. Also, paving will continue this week on Columbia Circle, Bridle Path and Mountainview Drive. And a portion of East Chamberlain Road will continue to be closed for reconstruction, scheduled for completion in September, according to public works.
  2. An update from the town assessor is expected this Tuesday at the Planning Board meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. The board will also consider plans for 40 new apartments at 360 Daniel Webster Highway and whether to allow a firearms cleaning a repair business to operate on Camp Sargent Road.
  3. Don’t miss Merrimack’s Fourth of July celebrations this Thursday, including fireworks and parade.
  4. For those waiting on updates on Merrimack's PFAS groundwater contamination, proposed new standards for the chemicals have been released.
  5. Merrimack's Movies In The Park start this Friday with “Wreck It Ralph 2,” from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free hot dogs and games will be involved. The event is sponsored by the Lions Club.
