Car Crashes, Burns On Everett Turnpike Closing Road At Rush Hour

A vehicle traveling south on the Everett Turnpike crashed into the guardrail and burst into flames causing a trauma alert for the driver.

MERRIMACK, NH — A vehicle traveling south on the Everett Turnpike crashed into a guardrail in the median, causing the car to burst into flames on Friday.

Drivers who witnessed the crash moved the adult male driver from the vehicle and brought him to the northbound side of the highway away from the burning car.

When Merrimack Fire Rescue and Merrimack police arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The northbound side of the highway was immediately closed diverting traffic off at Exit 12.

One vehicle that was traveling north struck debris in the roadway activating their airbags and causing a flat tire. The northbound vehicle was not part of the initial collision.

The patient was given medical attention and a trauma alert was activated at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester for a male possibly in his 30s with injuries.

The highway remained closed for an extended time while the fire was extinguished, and NH DOT workers removed the guardrail.

Southbound and northbound lanes are open and reduced to one lane as of 9:25 a.m.

The accident is under investigation by New Hampshire State Police.
