Firearm Repair Business In Merrimack Home Approved

The Planning Board has given permission for a Merrimack resident to operate a firearm cleaning and repair business from his home.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Merrimack resident has gained approval to operate a firearm cleaning and repair business from his home. The Planning Board has approved a home occupation permit for the business last week. The business will be located at 168 Camp Sargent Road, next to Veterans Memorial Park. It still needs a federal license before starting to operate.

Lawrence Bird, who lives at the home, will be the only employee of the business, which will operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, he told the Planning Board last week. No ammunition will be stored at the business, and all firearms will be stored in gun safes — with separate safes for Bird's personal gun collection and those being stored as part of his business, he said.

No firearms will be fired at Bird's home as part of the business, he told the Planning Board. Also, as part of their conditions for approval members of the Planning Board required that no gun sales take place on the property. A security alarm system approved by the Merrimack police is also required.

Bird said he expects one or two customers visiting his home per day for business purposes. Bird rents the home from Dennis Drouin.

Planning Board member Alastair Millns said this is about the sixth home occupation gun cleaning and repair business in Merrimack, with the board having approved several in recent years.
