NH State Police said John Wells, of Florida, drowned in about 2 feet of water in the Androscoggin River while camping with friends.

BERLIN, NH -- A Florida man drowned in about 2 feet of water Saturday in New Hampshire's Androscoggin River in the White Mountains. John Wells, 62, of Leesburg, was camping with friends in Berlin along the river Friday night, according to New Hampshire State Police Lieutenant Crystal McLain. All the campers went to sleep that night.
"One of the campers woke up this morning and found him next to the campsite in approximately sixteen to twenty-four inches of water," McLain said in a statement.
First responders arrived and Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.
