Man Accused Of Punching Merrimack Police Officer In The Face

MERRIMACK, NH — A man is accused of punching a police officer in the face on Saturday after an incident in Merrimack.

Around 5:15 p.m., an officer on patrol saw a vehicle parked, "out of sorts," in a local parking lot and the driver appeared slumped over. The officer attempted to check on the driver and noticed the vehicle's engine was running and the window was down, Sgt. Dennis Foley of the Merrimack Police Department said.

"After several attempts to wake him, by yelling and shaking him, he eventually woke up," Foley said.

The driver was identified as Brandon Enderson, 27, of Everett Street in Derry and the officer observed him having "signs of impairment." He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and agreed, and later, was "determined to be under the influence," Foley wrote.

"As the officer went to place Enderson under arrest, he pulled away and attempted to run," Foley added. "As the officer continued to attempt to take Enderson into custody, he punched the officer in the face."

Other officers arrived and accused Enderson of struggling before being handcuffed. He was charged with driving while intoxicated-subsequent, two counts of resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer. Enderson was released on personal recognizance bail and is due to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court at a later date.
