MERRIMACK, NH — The Merrimack Police Department will hold a brief ceremony Thursday for the late police dog, Pluto, who recently died after being diagnosed with cancer. Pluto was 1 and a half years old, and his "promising career was tragically cut short," according to the Merrimack Police Department. The German shepherd, along with his handler Master Patrolman Stephen Wallin, worked and trained tirelessly and were committed to serving the town, police say.

On Thursday, the public is invited to help honor Pluto during a ceremony at 4 p.m., taking place at the John O'Leary Adult Community Center at 4 Church St. Pluto had joined the Merrimack Police Department in October 2018. The dog lived with Wallin, who described Plutoas "one of the best working dogs he has ever seen."
