Merrimack Man Accused Of Possessing 'Incendiary Device'

GOFFSTOWN, NH — A Merrimack man faces a possession of an infernal machine charge in Goffstown after a multi-month investigation into an incendiary device found on Route 114.

The device, according to police, was found near Mast Road in August 2019. It was initially described by police as a "suspicious package," two cylinders taped together, which was later neutralized by the New Hampshire State Police Explosive Disposal Unit.

"The Explosive Disposal Unit confirmed that the device in question was an incendiary device," said Eric Sereno, the chief of the Goffstown Police Department.

An incendiary device is defined as a bomb built to not explode but to start a fire. Police spent many months conducting "a lengthy and thorough investigation" and issued a warrant against Kyle S. Ducharme, 24 of Merrimack on a single misdemeanor possession of an infernal machine charge.

Ducharme was arrested by Hollis police on May 30 after an incident the week before in that community, that he was not party to, but involved a noise complaint concerning "excessively spinning" the tires and honking the horn of a Mustang in the driveway of a family member, according to a report.

Ducharme is due in Goffstown District Court Aug. 20.
