Merrimack Police Dog Pluto Dies Of Cancer

Merrimack police dog Pluto, described as "one of the best working dogs," has recently died of cancer.

MERRIMACK, NH — The town's police dog Pluto has recently died after being diagnosed with cancer. The German shepherd has been a member of the Merrimack Police Department since October 2018 and was one and a half years old. His handler, Master Patrol Officer Stephen Wallin, described Pluto as "one of the best working dogs he has ever seen," according to the Merrimack police.

Pluto, who lived with Wallin, showed a willingness to work hard and showed devotion to Wallin and other members of the Police Department, Merrimack police stated. Wallin and Pluto had received a patrol certification through the Boston Police Department.

Merrimack police are thanking "the caring and compassionate veterinarians who diligently cared" for Pluto, particularly Dr. Audrey Karamourtopoulos and Dr. Clay Baker of Fremont Animal Hospital and staff at the Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital.
