Merrimack Voters Have Competitive Races In Town, School Elections

MERRIMACK, NH — Voters in Merrimack have a number of competitive races for town and school positions, including budget items, and a special election for a state representative seat, too.

Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, at the James Mastricola Upper Elementary School, 26 Baboosic Lake Road; the Merrimack Middle School at 31 Madeline Bennett Lane; and St. John Neumann Church at 708 Milford Road. On the town ballot, there is one competitive race — four candidates running for three, three-year town council seats: Nancy Harrington, Andy Hunter, Tom Koenig, and Nancy Olson Murphy.

Voters will also decide to approve a $35.54 million-plus budget or a default budget of $34.15 million budget. Article 3 is a $1.88 million capital reserve/trust fund proposal to purchase equipment like an ambulance, communications equipment, and other items.

Article 4 is a $500,000 proposal for sewer infrastructure while Article 5 proposes $75,000 for stormwater planning for Baboosic Lake. Article 6 is a petition requesting the Legislature to create a fair and transparent redistricting process.

The school district ballot has two competitive races. Seven candidates are seeking two three-year school board seats: Michelle Bronchuk, Jenna Hardy, Kenneth Martin, Chandra Miller, Lori Peters, Scott Sabens, and David Sydow. There are also four candidates running for one, one-year seat: Cinda Guagliumi, Jennifer McCormack, Rachel Paepke, and Jaimie Von Schoen.

School articles include an article to accept gifts; raises for Merrimack Educational Support Staff Association members; a special meeting, if needed, if Article 3 (the raise proposal) is rejected; $4 million for a 10-year lease to improve ventilation in schools; and rescinding Article 7 of the 2006 School District Warrant establishing a budget committee. Also, voters will eye an $81.87 million budget or a default budget of $81.92 million.

Voters in Merrimack will also vote on an open state representative seat. Bill Boyd, a Republican, Wendy Thomas, a Democrat, and Stephen Hollenberg, of the American Solidarity Party, are running for the seat.
