Surge Of Thefts In Merrimack, Police Urge To Lock Your Vehicles

Merrimack residents woke up to find their vehicles that had been rummaged through and had multiple items stolen in a weekend crime spree

MERRIMACK, NH - Lock your cars! That is the message from Merrimack Police after a rash of thefts from cars over the weekend in Merrimack.

MPD Captain Matt Tarleton said Saturday and Sunday morning several people woke up and found their vehicles had been rummaged through and items stolen. Captain Tarleton said all the people who had items stolen had left their vehicles unlocked.

Items stolen from the vehicles included credit cards, cash, identifications, wallets, sunglasses, electronics, flashlights, and loose change from the car.

Captain Tarleton said that they received between 20 to 30 reports from residents in the North end and West side of Merrimack. It is unknown how many additional thefts may have gone unreported to police.

Police are investigating some video surveillance provided by residents but ask that people make an effort to review surveillance in the early morning hours on Saturday and Sunday. Also any additional information people can provide of people or vehicles they may have witnessed should be shared with Merrimack Police.

Captain Tarleton stressed Merrimack is still a safe great place, and unfortunately many people come from other locations to take advantage of the quiet community.

Residents are reminded to “Lock it or lose it” which is a campaign many cities and towns have used to remind people.
