Woman Seriously Injured After Jumping From Burning Merrimack Home
Watch: A 2-alarm fire destroyed a house on Shore Drive, injuring two firefighters. A family dog remains missing. Amherst, Bedford assist.
MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Fire and police received multiple calls Thursday around 7 p.m. for a reported structure fire on Shore Drive, which is located on Baboosic Lake.
While en route, responding units were advised a woman had jumped from the second floor of the burning house. Fire crews arrived at a house fully engulfed in fire, and a report of one person still inside the structure. The address of the house was actually 2 Shore Drive Extension and had been called in as several neighboring addresses.
The woman who jumped from the building was quickly removed from the scene by a local resident using a boat to bring her to the boat ramp on the Amherst side of the lake. Amherst ambulance was dispatched to treat and transport the victim to the Elliot Hospital.

Merrimack fire stretched hose lines from a hydrant, fire crews were immediately challenged with water supply. The cause of the water supply problem was debris including small rocks from the water main clogging the intake screens on the fire engines and blocking the water supply to the fire scene.
A second alarm was requested bringing multiple towns and cities to the scene and for station coverage. Additional ambulances from AMR, Amherst, and Bedford were dispatched to the scene to assist.

Firefighters quickly determined that the occupant believed to be inside had evacuated safely. Crews pulled away from the building and began to make a defensive attack as the structure began to collapse.
The water supply was stabilized after about 20 minutes, and firefighters worked to contain the fire in the original structure and in the woods surrounding it. The intense fire caused extreme heat melting items around the yard of the lakefront home, and catching several areas of brush on fire.
The woman who jumped from the building has serious injuries including burns and injuries from jumping. She remains at the Elliot Hospital receiving treatment.

Two firefighters were transported from the scene by ambulance to Catholic Medical Center. The firefighters were treated for injuries, evaluated, and have been released from the hospital.
One family dog remains unaccounted for at this time, and it is unknown if the dog ran off from the fire or was unable to escape.
