Boston Strong Blood Drive Exceeds Expectations

The “Boston Strong” spirit could be seen in Milford as locals piled in to give blood and donations last week.

A surge of attendance was seen at the Boston Strong Blood Drive on Friday, which was helda at Saint Patrick’s Church in Milford. The drive, organized by Milford High School senior Mitchell Banuskevich, had an impressive turnout of donors.

Over forty scheduled appointments came in to donate their blood, which doesn’t even include walk-in donors. The drive also collected monetary donations for The One Fund, which raises money in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.

An impressive total of 17 local businesses also donated raffle items to raise money for the cause.

Mitchell Banuskevich said he “felt an obligation” to do something in honor of the Boston Marathon victims. He had friends down there the day of the attacks, and the fear truly hit home that day.

This is the first time a Red Cross blood drive has been held at the Milford church. With the turnout seen from donors it is looking like it won’t be the last.
