David Wilson for Milford Schoolboard, Facebook

Why are you seeking elective office?

From seeing the situation arise over the past two years and finding it very disagreeable that the opposing sides cannot find common ground to compromise and come together, I feel it’s my duty to put my hat in the ring to get a seat on the board so I can help make things move forward for the children and the citizens of Milford.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The most pressing issue facing our school district is the division between the passionate school staff and their citizen supporters on one side and the Superintendent and School Board on the other. My intention is to offer a rational voice to assist in the process of healing the community, then combining the efforts of these different groups to create a solid cohesive body and to help repair the damage and restore the reputation of the Milford school district.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I have been involved in many facets of the Milford School District such as;
I have served on the Milford school budget advisory committee for the past two years. I spent four years as a coach for the Milford Special Olympics basketball team, I was part of the Milford School District Strategic plan and Steering Committee over the past year. I participated in the principal hiring committee in 2019. I was recently voted in as Vice president of the Milford football and cheer boosters which I’ve been working with for the past two years and I am also on the engineering program advisory committee for the Milford high school ATC program for the past two years.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)

As there are two openings available on the Milford school board, one space is currently held by Mr. Rick Wood who was appointed as an interim school board member and will be running with for election in this term cycle. I am running for the vacancy left by Mr. Kevin Drew who served our board for the last nine years and has elected to step down.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform

The current board has been making an effort to remediate the lax habits of prior Administrations which led to the hiring of a new superintendent. This has resulted in a large number of changes which has been met with resistance. My role will be to steward us to get through to a better place using diplomacy and compromise.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I’ve had a number of roles throughout my work history that have put me in a position to offer resolutions and solutions to complex financial problems and having to find a solution that benefits everybody can be difficult. I pride myself on always being able to find a solution where everybody is able to get a piece of something they want and meet in the middle ground.

The best advice ever shared with me was …

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I’m in this to help make Milford a better place than when I got here.
