MILFORD, NH — A Milford man is accused of a gun threat road rage incident in one community and arson, maiming police dog, mischief, and other charges in another community after a standoff with police Thursday.

Police in Milford attempted to make a motor vehicle stop on Savage Road after receiving a tip about a road rage incident in Wilton earlier in the evening. During the incident, Jason Johnson, 35, of Milford was accused of pointing a firearm at another person. Before 10 p.m., police attempted to stop Johnson in the driveway of his home but he "fled inside his residence with a firearm and barricaded himself" inside the home, according to Capt. Shawn Pelletier of the Milford Police Department.

"For approximately two hours, Milford police attempted to get Johnson to come out peacefully," Pelletier said, with the help of Wilton police.

At just before midnight, officers saw that the kitchen of his home had been set on fire. Milford fire and rescue teams were called while officers and K-9 Barry entered the home to fetch the suspect.

Johnson was safely removed from the home, Pelletier said, and charged with criminal threatening with a weapon in Wilton and arson, two counts of maiming a police dog, disorderly conduct, two counts of criminal mischief, and two resisting arrest charges. He is being held at the Valley Street Jail in Manchester.
