Milford School’s Food Director Honored For Student Wellness
Maryanne Gallagher was feted for her work with the Fuel Up to Play 60, which encourages health food choices and physical activity.

MILFORD, NH — The person in charge of the food service for the Milford School District received an award this month for her work making a positive impact on student wellness. Maryanne Gallagher received the award at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on May 9, 2019, to celebrate the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, which is now in its 10th year. The event, which was a fundraiser co-hosted by the New England Dairy & Food Council, honored food service directors and others who had an impact on health and wellness in their schools, which has led to more positive lives for their students.
The program encourages students to consume healthy foods and to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Gallagher has been active in the program for about eight years. She spent that time encouraging the schools in her district to become involved in the program. This has led to students requesting and encouraging changes to their food choices, including the introduction of nutritious and creative school menu items, like smoothies.

Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots was at the event and gave the award to Gallagher.
“(The program) gives students a voice to make positive changes in their schools,” McCourty stated. “I was an ambassador for the program for five years not only because it promoted eating well and exercising, but because it empowered students to want to lead healthier lives.”
