NH Hospitals Left Off Best Children's Hospital Rankings: US News

NEW HAMPSHIRE — No New Hampshire hospitals were included in U.S. News' annual children's hospital rankings — however, a Massachusetts hospital with satellite Granite State locations and located within driving distance was named the best in the country. The Best Children's Hospitals 2018-19 report, released Tuesday, ranked Boston Children's Hospital No. 1. Another Boston hospital — MassGeneral Hospital for Children — also made the rankings.

The rankings looked at 10 pediatric specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; neonatology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology; and urology. No New Hampshire hospitals were included in the top 10 of each category.

"The rankings highlight which hospital has the best experience, capabilities, teams and track records in achieving 'good outcomes' for young patients," Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News, told Patch. "There are hundreds if not thousands of hospitals in the country that take care of kids ... These rankings are intended to aid families with young patients suffering from 'particularly challenging' medical diagnoses and who need an 'extra level of care.'"
