Aldermen Reject Move to Pay $100K for Dam Work
The board refused to reconsider a vote against the payment to Cotton Mill Square.
The Nashua Board of Aldermen narrowly defeated a motion May 27 to reconsider its vote earlier this month against paying $100,000 to Cotton Mill Square for work on the right abutment to the Jackson Falls Dam.
Mayor Donnalee Lozeau, in her remarks ahead of the vote, urged the board to reconsider the payment resolution out of good faith.
"Just because you don't have to doesn't mean we don't have some responsibility," she said.
The core work for the right abutment to the dam was completed by the end of 2013.
Alderman Diane Sheehan, having voted on the prevailing side of the issue May 13, filed the motion for reconsideration for the May 27 meeting. She said it was worth bringing up again to weigh all the information available.
Alderman Ken Siegel maintained the city is not responsible for the project work, based on existing contract.
"I think this is a terrible precedent to go through this," he said. "A contract's a contract."
