Back-Up on Sagamore Bridge 'Kind of a Nightmare'
Disabled cars piled up, but not one of them hit the other, Hudson fire officials said.
It was a snowstorm traffic scenario of doom with a silver lining, and kind of a miracle that nobody got hurt, said Hudson Fire Capt. David Morin.
"We had a call for a tractor-trailer accident on the Sagamore Bridge near Exit 2, and when we arrived found a multi-car accident – 15 to 20 cars, including a jack-knifed trailer – amazingly, not one car had struck any other," Morin said. "It started when one car got stuck just as you come over the bridge, heading west into Nashua.
Morin said all the stranded motorists were evacuated from their cars and moved to the other side of the guard rail as a precaution.Â
"We were concerned with the number of cars coming by and sliding into where the other cars were that someone would get hurt," Morin said.
"Traffic backed up into Hudson, along Lowell Road and the DW Highway was backed up considerably. It really caused a traffic nightmare, but nobody got hurt – you can't hate that," Morin said.
That was not the only snow-driven excitement in Hudson Saturday – Hudson emergency crews responded to Kimball Hill Road for an accident and no sooner cleared the scene then were called back, Morin said.
"We had six vehicles off the road. Then, our Engine 2 was enroute to 102 for an accident when we witnessed a head-on crash on Route 102 in the Litchfield area, with injuries, so we were able to start treatment right away," Morin said. Â
As of about 6 p.m. Morin said main roads in town were improving while the side roads were still bad. Â
