City Of Nashua Declares Snow Emergency Due To Impending Storm
As snow returns to the city, public works has declared a snow emergency beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday through Tuesday afternoon.
NASHUA, NH — The city of Nashua has declared a snow emergency for Monday night through Tuesday afternoon due to a storm that could drop up to a foot of snow, or more, on the city.
The director of public works declared the snow emergency Monday. It will begin around 10 p.m. and run through 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
On Sunday night, snow accumulations were expected to be between 12 and 18 inches but forecasters have downgraded that slightly to around 11 inches. Areas to the east and west of the city are expected to get between 14 and 18 inches, so the actual amount of snow could change in the coming hours.

There will be no on-street or municipal surface lot parking during the emergency but free parking is available in the Elm Street and High Street garages. The garages are available now to residents and will be free through 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
"It is very challenging to keep streets clear with heavy snow conditions," Lauren Byers, a public relations administrator for the Division of Public Works, said. "This storm is likely to contain heavy bands of blowing snow which will impact travel in the area. If you don’t need to be out on the roads, please stay off them for your safety and to make room for equipment working to keep roads open."

The city's overnight parking program is suspended and officials will begin towing at 10 p.m. Owners of towed vehicles may retrieve their cars at the Solid Waste Department (landfill) and must pay a fine of $315 (cash, money order, or credit card only). Cars can be picked up at the landfill scale house at all times during the snow emergency. After the snow emergency has been lifted, cars can be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Byers warned that residential side streets will not be plowed immediately and sidewalks will not be plowed until crews have a chance to clear primary and residential streets.
Trash and recycling pickup has been canceled for Tuesday. Tuesday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday with subsequent days being delayed by 24 hours.
