Dynamic Printing Duo at Picker Building Bring You 'Nashtalgia'

If you spotted the really cool retro T-shirts in the display window at Persian Rug Gallery on Main Street, and wondered what they had to do with rugs, Medina Mahfuz Gauthier can fill you in.

She is daughter of Persian Rug Gallery owner, Sy Mahfuz, and owner of Mint Printworks, a new custom apparel print shop located in the Picker Building, on Factory Street.

The T-shirts are sold under the shingle of Granite State Dry Goods, a side business she and her husband, Tyler Gauthier, thought might gain some traction for Nashuans who are into nostalgia.

"We call it the Nashtalgia Collection – my husband came up with that," said Mahfuz Gauthier, explaining the line of T-shirts featuring several bygone landmarks, including The Modern, Green Ridge Turkey Farm, Nashua Pirates and more.

The Gauthiers opened up shop in April at the Picker Building, 99 Factory Street Extension, home to about 30 fine artists and artisans who make everything from jewelry, pottery and paintings, to photography.

Tyler Gauthier started his career in the printing business working for Life is Good, eventually opening his own place, T-shirt Bodega in Manchester, said his wife. The couple moved away from the area for a year, but moved back closer to home when they started their family. 

"We had a lot of clients missing our service, so we took them back and did a small studio in our home, but in April we decided we needed a bigger place, so we decided to look at the Picker Building. We actually learned about the Picker during an ArtWalk a few years ago. It's a great space with lots of great businesses," Mahfuz Gauthier said. 

On Dec. 7 the Picker Building will be hosting its annual Holiday Market Open Studios from noon to 5 p.m., inviting shoppers to come in and look around – and while there, buy some unique one-of-a-kind gifts hand-crafted by Nashua artisans, of course.
