GRAY, ME — Most of southern New Hampshire has been placed under a "high wind watch" by the National Weather Service. Forecasters issued the alert for Cheshire, interior and coastal Rockingham, and western and central Hillsborough counties at 11:39 a.m. Sunday. Winds are expected out of the south at 15 to 20 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph.

Along with the wind, "heavy rain" is also possible. Combined with snow melt in the North Country, the storm could "push rivers and streams to bankfull."

The watch is in effect from noon on Monday through 8 p.m.

"Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines," forecasters said. "Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

Wind gusts of more than 40 mph "may make temporary structures susceptible to damage," forecasters said. Loose objects should be fastened or sheltered before Monday afternoon.
