Friday Apartment Fire Remains Under Investigation

No official determination yet by Nashua Fire Marshal.

The cause of an apartment fire on Beard Street that required fire fighters to rescue four people from a second-floor apartment remains under investigation.

"That is still under investigation by the police and fire marshal," said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Kerrigan. "That may be an outcome, but as of this morning no one's been charged; no official determination has been made."

Nashua Fire Department responded to the blaze just after midnight Jan. 24 at 5 Beard St., Apt. #2, which included a rescue of four people trapped inside, according to Deputy Chief Karl Gerhard.

Kerrigan said code enforcement was called to look into "several violations" detected inside the multi-family building, which remains part of the investigation.

Two smoke alarms inside the building were not working when fire officials arrived, according to a summary of the call issued by Gerhard.
