NASHUA – With a 98 percent hiring rate for graduates, the Microelectronics Boot Camp at Nashua Community College has been a reliable on-ramp to a new career since its founding in 2016.

Microelectronics Boot Camp instructor Jim Flis said the program helps students seek new opportunity, “It prepares students with a valuable and sought-after set of skills, but the boot camp can also help someone in an obsolete profession learn the skills to stay relevant and a valuable contributor to the work force.”

Developed in partnership with BAE Systems, the College also works with industry partners such as Mercury Systems, API Technology, MACOM, MIT Lincoln Labs, Lockheed Martin, Monzite, and more. As a founding partner, all program graduates are guaranteed an interview with BAE Systems, and BAE remains a strong supporter of the boot camp.

After graduating 20 classes and more than 200 students, the program has a 98 percent job placement rate for graduates. Boot Camp students have ranged in age from 18 to 63 and include recent high school graduates, workers from across industries seeking a career change, and military veterans. Many come from assistance programs like WOIA and MY TURN, INC. Alumni also support each new generation of students as lab assistants on campus, and as workplace mentors.

While grads have always fared well with career opportunities, many local industry partners are actively recruiting new skilled talent. “As we’re coming out of the pandemic, a lot of the companies we work with are in a hiring frenzy, and they are looking for skilled employees now,” said Jon Mason, Corporate, Community, and Continuing Education Coordinator at NCC.

For example, the current group of Microelectronics students all received job offers more than a week before their graduation, with some receiving multiple offers. New students can enroll now for the next 10-week session running July 19 through September 24.
