Gil Garcia: Man About Town

Portrait of a coloful guy.

If you spend any time at all walking around downtown Nashua you have surely seen Gil Garcia, always decked out in a fedora and scarf, sometimes sporting extraneous bling, coffee cup in hand, satchel slung over his shoulder.

And if you should strike up a conversation with him you are likely to learn that he is --at the very least -- an engaging storyteller.

You will get a mini-biography of an international man of mystery, a verbal curriculum vitae as thick and impressive as his Colombian accent.

It barely matters whether the details he chooses to highlight in his self-portrait are in their rightful place, or slightly skewed by his artful rendering.

Just like Salvador Dali's third arm or Picaso's asymmetric eyes, Garcia paints himself as he sees fit when asked by a curious stranger, who interrupts his walk along the train tracks that run parallel to the river, heading west.

If you haven't had the pleasure, meet Gil Garcia -- man about town, happy wanderer, collector of good shoes, a snappy dresser "with passion for women and languages," who includes "the language of life" to the list of his accomplishments.

An undeniably vibrant stroke in Nashua's kaleidoscopic cityscape.
