Local Kids Benefit from Inaugural 'Shop with a Cop' Program

Kids had a chance to shop for themselves and for family members.

It takes a lot more than a foot of snow to keep Nashua Police officers home when duty calls. Sunday's first big blizzard served as evidence – it didn't stop them from keeping a very important shopping date with a group of kids in need.

Officers were joined Dec. 15 by 13 children from Nashua who braved the blizzard to participate in the inaugural "Shop with a Nashua Cop" program, sponsored by the Nashua Police Patrolman’s Association and Target Corporation.

Each child identified in advance for the program was given $100 to spend on Christmas gifts for themselves and family members. A majority of the kids used their money to buy gifts for family members, items which were quickly gift wrapped by 15 volunteers – including 12 officers – who all donated their time on Sunday morning to reach out to these kids.

Officer Michael Sullivan said this year's program was a huge success, and NPPA expects to continue the tradition again next year, and for many years to come.
