NASHUA, NH — A felon was accused of possessing a knife during a fight on Edgewood Avenue on Monday, according to police and court records.

Around 9:15 p.m., officers were sent to the avenue for a report of a criminal threatening incident. A suspect, Ryan Baldwin, 30, a homeless man now located in Nashua, was accused of leaving the area on foot.

The complainant said Baldwin had been staying at her home but was barred from drinking. Earlier though, she accused him of being intoxicated and arguing with another man about a request for a ride. Baldwin began "challenging (the other man) to a fight" but later, left the home, an affidavit stated. She then watched him through a window and accused him of using a knife to stab the rear passenger tire of the vehicle.

An officer spoke to the other man, who denied being threatened and did not see the stabbing of the tire, the report said. The argument about the ride stemmed from the other man telling Baldwin he could not drive him because the Jeep was not operational.

"He became incredibly upset and left the residence," the man told police.

The cost of the tire was estimated to be around $130, according to the vehicle's owner, another woman.

Officers searched for Baldwin and found him on Amherst Street. They spoke with him and conducted a pat search — which led to the discovery of a silver "butterfly" style knife, the affidavit said. When asked about the stabbed tire, Baldwin "claimed ignorance to the damage," police alleged. He was then arrested on a criminal mischief charge.

During processing, a detective reviewed Baldwin's criminal history and found a felony second-degree assault conviction from April 2017, which meant Baldwin was not allowed to be carrying any deadly weapon in the state of New Hampshire. Two detectives attempted to conduct a post-arrest interview but claimed he was "extremely uncooperative and refused to provide a statement."

A felon convicted-deadly weapon charge was then filed against Baldwin, according to the report. He was held on $1,000 cash bail and arraigned on Tuesday. Police said he could face up to eight years in prison and fines.

Baldwin is due back in court for a dispositional conference on Aug. 17.

According to superior court records, Baldwin first became a felon back in June 2010 after pleading guilty to felony criminal threatening and reckless conduct charges as well as simple assault out of Nashua. A criminal mischief charge was nolle prossed. A couple of years later, Baldwin was arrested on robbery, handguns-carrying without a license, handguns-changing marks, controlled drug, reckless conduct, and felon in possession of a dangerous weapon charges, and pleaded guilty to the charges in January 2013. The second-degree assault charge occurred in June 2016 — along with three criminal mischief charges, criminal trespass, and obstruct report of a crime or injury, too. In April 2018, he was accused of violation of probation and parole.
