Nashua Hit Hard By Quick Moving Storm That Causes House Fire

Firefighters had multiple calls for downed trees, powerlines, fires, and buildings struck by lightning, and power outages across the city.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua was hit by a quick-moving, hard-hitting storm on Wednesday.

Multiple calls started coming into Nashua Fire Rescue just after 5 p.m. for reports of several trees, power lines, and transformers down across Nashua.

Firefighters responded to a report of a large tree down on a house at Prescott Street and Baldwin. The caller reported a fire in the basement and was told to evacuate.

When firefighters arrived, they reported smoke showing from the 2-story house and stretched hose lines. Firefighters quickly found a fire in the basement and worked to extinguish it while a ladder truck was set up to the roof.

The fire was quickly spreading to the first floor. AMR ambulance medics evaluated a resident from the house. Utility companies were called to the scene to deal with a live wire taken down by the tree.

A call came in for a house struck by lightning on Cornwell Road where firefighters found a damaged fence that appeared struck by lightning. The house was checked out with a thermal imaging camera and it was determined the house was not damaged.

A tree that fell across Robinson Road took down power lines and caused a traffic accident. Trees and power lines were taken down on Margate Drive, New Searles Road, Russell Ave, Cote Avenue, South London Drive, and South Main Street. A large tree behind a building Vaggee Drive struck a fence and crushed a shed.

Nashua Park and Recreation had tree crews out working to remove trees that were blocking roads. Eversource worked to make live power lines safe, and restore power.

Nashua Fire Rescue responded to multiple fire alarms activated due to the storm.
