Nashua's Joseph Mearls 'Would Do Anything for Anyone'

Mearls, 24, a motorcyclist, was killed Sunday after police said a drunk driver hit him.

Nashua’s Joseph Mearls would do anything for anyone.

That’s how family and friends remembered the 24-year-old after police said a drunk driver struck and killed him Sunday.

Mearls was riding his motorcycle on West Hollis Street when police said Romivel Cruz, 27, hit him. Mearls was transported to St. Joseph Hospital and pronounced dead.

Cruz exhibited signs of being drunk at the crash scene, police said, and he was arrested for aggravated DWI. It was at least his second DWI arrest. He’s currently being held in police custody.

Mearls wake will be held Sunday from 12-4 p.m. at Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson. A funeral service will be held at the same place Monday at 10 a.m.

Joseph John Mearls , 24 of Nashua New Hampshire, passed away on September 6, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident involving an impaired driver.

He was born on March 18, 1991 in Fitchburg Ma. He attended Nashua High School South. He was currently employed as a press operator at D.S. Graphics in Lowell Ma.

Joey had a passion for cars and bikes. He was a self-taught mechanic who could take apart anything and put it back together correctly and loved every minute of it. Joey was an incredible son, a loving brother and an amazing uncle to all 10 of his nieces and nephews. He had a love for all creatures. Joey was extremely close with his family and friends and would do anything for anyone. Joey lit up any room with his little grin.

Joey was survived by his parents Joseph L. Mearls of Nashua NH, Tracy (Mearls) Tickle and step-father Ronald Tickle of Fairfax VA, sister Alicia Dame and husband Matthew of Billerica MA, sister Krystina O’Brien and husband Patrick of Andover MA, Sister Ashlee Mearls and significant other James Cummings of Merrimack NH, sister Jacklyn Lizotte and husband Lyle of Nashua NH, brother Shawn Mearls and significant other Amanda Carpenter of Manchester NH. He leaves his nieces and nephews Alyssa and Kayson Lizotte, Baylee and Lilly Cummings, Dylon, Logon, Brody and Karly O’Brien, Isaac and Isadora Dame, and many close friends.
