Vigil for Nashua Motorcyclist Killed After Police Said Drunk Driver Hit Him

A memorial fund has been established for Joseph Mearls.

Family and friends of a Nashua motorcycle killed in a crash over the weekend held a vigil Tuesday night.

Joseph Mearls, 24, was struck by a drunk driver Sunday on West Hollis Street, police said. His motorcycle burst into flames, firefighters said. Mearls was transported to St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A memorial fund was also established for Mearls.

Police said the drunk driver, Romivel Cruz, 27, of Nashua, was charged with aggravated DWI and held on $50,000 bail.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, Cruz exhibited obvious signs of being drunk, according to police. He’s scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
