Volunteers Needed to Pull Invasive Weed from Nashua River

Volunteers will be yanking invasive water chestnuts from the river on Saturday.

Volunteers are being sought to pull water chestnuts, an invasive exotic weed, from the Nashua River this Saturday, June 14.

The Nashua River Watershed, Nashoba Paddler and the city of Nashua are sponsoring the event.

The work is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, and will set off from the boat ramp behind Stellos Stadium on Riverside Drive.

Nashoba Paddler Rentals in Groton, Mass., will provide a limited number of canoes at no charge, on a first-come, first served basis.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear work clothes, shoes and gloves, as well as sunscreen, bug spray and water. People can bring thier own boat and equipment, but life vests (personal flotation devices) are mandatory.

  • Walk-in registration on June 14 is OK. Liability waivers must be signed to participate.
