Three candidates for At-Large Alderman were holding signs outside Broad Street Elementary in Ward 1 on Tuesday morning.
Incumbent Aldermen Mark Cookson and David Deane were joined by Paula Johnson, who is campaigning for a return to the board.
Ward Clerk Mary Poston reported a slow start to Election Day.
"We normally have more than 100 in the first hour. Just for fun we jeep track, hour by hour, and we were way off," Poston said. "But I believe we are on pace for the numbers [City Clerk] Paul Bergeron is calling for."
Last week Bergeron said he expected a 14 percent turnout, or about 7,100 of the 50,717 voters registered prior to Election Day.
Poston had 434 voters come through as of 11:35 a.m.
"Thanks for voting, and keeping us awake," Poston said, with a smile, to a voter exiting the school building.
