33 Severe Flaws Found In Windham-Area Vehicle Inspections

WINDHAM, NH — Officers from State Police Troop G spent the day Tuesday inspecting commercial vehicles for violations, discovering 33 severe violations deemed unsafe enough to put vehicles or drivers out of service, according to police. The effort, aimed at improving safety and preventing collisions, was conducted in Windham, Epping, Canterbury and Shelburne. Of the 122 commercial vehicles inspected, police found 193 violations, of which 33 were deemed severe, State Police say.

In Windham, a driver was placed "out of service" for not having a CDL license. Although the vehicle would not normally require a CDL license, that license was required because the truck was so overloaded, according to the State Police. Another driver in Windham was placed out of service because of lack of the required seven days of driving logs at the time of inspection, police say.

In Canterbury, police stopped a 2016 Peterbilt tractor trailer loaded with log-length firewood. After weighing the vehicle with portable scales, police found it exceeded the legally allowed maximum weight 99,000 pounds. The vehicle weighed 121,100 pounds, State Police say. Both the truck and the trailer also exceeded the maximum axle weight limits, according to police.

On Route 2 in Shelburne, police placed a driver out of service for failing to have an electronic logging device in his tractor trailer as required by federal regulations, State Police say.
