Derry, Windham Café Owner Named Citizen Of The Year For 2019

DERRY, NH — A southern New Hampshire café owner has been named citizen of the year by the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce. Melanie Davis, the owner of The Grind Rail Trail Café, located in Derry and Windham, was named the 2019 citizen Tuesday. She will receive the award at the chamber's annual dinner on Oct. 3, at the Birch Wood Vineyards in Derry.

Davis, according to Ashley Haseltine, the president of the chamber, contributes to the region through behind-the-scenes work and supports numerous causes throughout the year. She recently celebrated five years of owning and operating The Grind Rail Trail Cafe in Derry. Davis opened a second location in Windham in 2018.

"The Citizen of the Year award," Haseltine said, "among the highest honors bestowed in our region, recognizes an individual in the Greater Derry Londonderry area who has contributed to the betterment of the community through volunteer service and civic leadership."

The theme for the October dinner is "Roarin' into the 20s." Hundreds of business leaders, including members of the chamber, are expected to attend. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting the chamber's website.
