Eversource: We Don't Discuss Bills Door-to-Door

Company warns customers about new payment/shutoff threat, prepaid credit card request scams.

Eversource NH is warning its customers to beware of new scams that target them with threats in order to pry money illegally out of people.

According to posts on Twitter, the company is telling its customers that it never goes door-to-door asking about or demanding to see or discuss bills. “We also don’t call customers to demand immediate payment or threaten shutoff,” according to the posts.

The company also listed numerous tips online to protect customers from scams. The tips include not sharing financial or utility information with anyone unsolicited or online and also never issue payment through prepaid cards.

Some of the recent scams include callers threatening customers with shutoff notices unless payment is made immediately made as well as requests to make payments over the phone. Another customer reported that a scammer requesting to see utility bills and check usage.
