Windham Fire Department Responds To Smoke In Diner

Firefighters found smoke showing from a popular diner, they were notified by a commercial fire alarm

WINDHAM, NH - On Tuesday October 6, 2020 just before 2:00 PM the Windham Fire and Police Departments responded to 4 Cobbetts Pond Road, in the Cobbetts Pond Plaza for a commercial fire alarm activation which was upgraded to reports of smoke in the building with a possible electrical issue at Mary Ann’s Diner.

Windham Fire said "The alarm assignment was then filled out with Windham Car-1 (Chief McPherson), along with Windham Ladder-1 (Lt. Sliver, FF Kurgan, FF Merrill, and FF Fournier) Tanker-1 (FF Nault), Tanker-2 (FF Zins) along with Windham Car-2 (Asst. Chief Brady) and a Salem Engine Automatic Aid."

WFD Chief McPherson said "On arrival, Ladder-1 reported a 4-unit multiple occupancy business with nothing showing, alarms sounding and building evacuation in process. Lt. Sliver conducted a quick walk through of all the units and verified everyone was out of the building and had an odor of electrical in three of the four units with a light smoke condition in the Diner."

WFD Ladder-1 was assigned roof sector and laddered the building directly over Mary Ann’s Diner. Tanker-1 and Tanker-2 provided water supply and assisted with ventilation. Once Salem Engine arrived, they were assigned to check all of the connecting units using a Thermal Imaging Camera. That process confirmed an all clear.

Once crews were on the roof, they found an overheated seized motor on a rooftop unit. That unit was isolated and power to it was shut off. The property Rep was on scene and advised to contact their HVAC Company.

There were no injuries were reported and all units were re-occupied for business
