Joe Connelly Joins the North Suburban YMCA
YMCA of Greater Boston Names Joe Connelly as New Senior Executive Director

The YMCA of Greater Boston is pleased to welcome Joe Connelly as the new Senior Executive Director for the North Suburban YMCA in Woburn, Mass.
The Windham, N.H. resident, formally of Reading, Mass, brings more than 24 years of service managing recreation and community education programs similar to those offered by the Y. He started his career as the Director for the town of Reading. He later advanced his career to be the Director of Recreation and Community Education for the town of Winchester, and then took the Director position in Arlington, a position he held for more than 10 years.

In his most recent role, Director of Community Services for the town of Andover, Connelly is responsible for the divisions of Recreation, Youth Services, Elder Services and Veterans Services. Connelly has vast experience in capital improvement plans for town recreational facilities, including a senior center, recreation building, teen center, ice rink, town beach, parks, playgrounds and athletic courts. He also has overseen a $500,000 capital campaign.

Although Connelly will be new to the Y executive team, he has been a member for years. As the father of three girls, he is passionate about health and wellness. In his hometown, Connelly is the President of Youth Lacrosse and was a member of the Soccer Board for more than ten years. He is also a former Reading Memorial High School Varsity Boys Soccer Coach. In Andover, Connelly was an active member of Rotary International and served on the Andover Disability Commission.

The opportunity to bring my passion for wellness and community to an organization as well respected as the YMCA is a dream come true.”
Public service has been a long-standing tradition in Connelly’s family in Woburn. His mother was a special education teacher at Daniel L Joyce Middle School and his grandparents lived and owned businesses in the community. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and a Master of Education in in Education Athletic Administration from Springfield College. He also holds a Certificate in Local Government, Leadership and Management from Suffolk University.
