Everyone loves bacon—and the New Hampshire Lottery marketing department is trying to capitalize’s on the region’s penchant for pig with a bacon-scented scratch ticket.
Yes, a bacon-scented scratch ticket.
The “I (Heart) Bacon” ticket was released earlier this month. It costs $1 and offers prizes up to $1,000. The lottery ran a full-court marketing press with radio spots and a Facebook contest that asked people to write an “ode to bacon” poem. Later this month, lottery workers will visit stores across the state and serve up free (real) bacon.

“I bought some to give as a birthday present and put them in my back pocket,” wrote Paul Morganelli on the lottery‘s Facebook page. “I was driving home and since it was very cold had the seat warmer on and all of a sudden I am smelling bacon and not knowing where it came from. Then I remembered...the tickets in my seat pocket! Too funny!”
On the other hand, Leila Montalvo Kingsbury opined, “These smell crappy. Who thought of this? Waste of money.”
