WDTC and Gov. Sununu Honor Kristi St. Laurent

Outgoing Chair of Windham Democratic Town Committee is recognized for her dedication and commitment

Windham ~ On Tuesday, March 16, the Windham Democratic Town Committee (WDTC) held its annual caucus to elect a new slate of officers. At the meeting, the committee also took the opportunity to pay homage to the incredible impact and dedicated service of Kristi St. Laurent, outgoing committee chair.

NH Governor Chris Sununu, in a signed and sealed commendation letter recognizing her contributions to the town and state, said, "On behalf of the citizens of New Hampshire, I commend Kristi for her service and wish her all the best in the future."

Kristi took over as chair of the committee 11 years ago. In her time, she instituted a new era for the WDTC, with clear leadership and organization, membership drives, monthly newsletters, social media presence and consistent messaging as part of an overall media presence. She has coordinated federal, state and county candidates coming to Windham-based campaign events, and ballot information nights for town meetings featuring sitting members of the Board of Selectmen discussing each article. Under Kristi, the WDTC promoted a slate of local candidates to step up and run for state office to avoid allowing incumbents to run unopposed. She brought a new level of visibility for the WDTC within the town of Windham as a liaison with elected officials, and town administration. She stood up as a leader in taking on established opponents as candidate for state-wide office, providing a voice for progressive values that offers a contrast and pushes candidates to speak honestly and openly about their own values.

Kristi once told a friend who asked why she chose to step up, to run for office, to take on the position as chair of the Windham Town Democratic Committee, to get involved, “Well, I knew it wasn’t enough to sit back and complain about the way things are being run. I knew I needed to do something about it.” And do something about it, she has. Since taking over the helm of the WDTC, Kristi has single-handedly taken the fledgling organization from a somewhat dis-organized group of like-minded thinkers to a force to contend with on the political landscape of Windham. She has run for office, held office, and supported candidates across the political spectrum. She asks questions, digs for the answers, holds our elected representatives to account for their actions and is the role model we all need in our lives to show us how civic engagement must work to keep Democracy alive in this country. The town of Windham is happier and healthier for Kristi’s involvement and we look forward to her next steps in moving a progressive and for-the-people agenda forward for our town, our state and our country.
