NEW JERSEY ? Did you enjoy the pleasant weather this past weekend? It's coming to an end Monday as parts of the Garden State are set to get hit by severe thunderstorms with strong winds and hail this afternoon.

The week will start off dry, but in the afternoon, "the Storm Prediction Center has issued a targeted Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for most of southern NJ," the National Weather Service said in its daily briefing.

This area is comprised of Central Jersey down through the southern tip of the state, according to a map shared by the National Weather Service.

"Atmospheric profiles suggest that the primary threats will be hail followed by damaging wind gusts," National Weather Service forecasters said. "The remainder of the area lies in a General Thunder risk."

Showers and storms will continue into the early evening, but will wane as it begins to get dark out, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers and storms will continue through Wednesday night, forecasters say.

"Right now odds of severe look low, but not zero, while localized heavy rain could be more of a concern (or perhaps blessing for those who have been abnormally dry of late)," the National Weather Service said.

It'll also be "warm and sultry," according to forecasters.

And as we get closer to the weekend, it'll get hot and humid, with chances for showers and storms still lingering.

"Not the quiet and pleasant Saturday we just had, that's for sure," the National Weather Service said.
