NJ Weather: Winter Weather Advisory In 17 NJ Counties

A winter weather advisory was issued in 17 New Jersey counties now that more snow and winter weather are coming. Here's what's expected.

NEW JERSEY – A winter weather advisory will be in effect in 17 New Jersey counties now that more snow and winter weather is heading toward the Garden State.

The snow and winter weather are expected to begin impacting New Jersey beginning after 1 p.m. on Saturday and last until 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Total snow accumulations less than an inch expected, according to the National Weather Service. But the icy wintry mix could present the biggest problems.

  • WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of less than one inch and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch.
  • WHERE...Portions of New Jersey and southeast Pennsylvania.
  • WHEN...From 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. EST Sunday.
  • IMPACTS...Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy roadways, especially Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

AccuWeather meteorologists said one of the busiest winter weather patterns in decades will continue to bombard much of the nation with a host of impacts into next week. Several weather systems are lining up with the likelihood to bring more snow and ice to the Northeast through the end of next week, according to AccuWeather.

Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected from part of northern Virginia to Maine Saturday into Sunday, according to AccuWeather. A wintry mix, including some ice, is likely to persist from southern New England to the southern Appalachians and Piedmont areas of the Southeast from Sunday into Monday.

A change to rain is most likely along much of the I-95 corridor, but precipitation is likely to start out as a period of ice at the onset in the mid-Atlantic and across southern New England, according to AccuWeather.

Here is the forecast:

  • Saturday: A chance of sleet between noon and 4 p.m., then a chance of freezing rain after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 30. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
  • Saturday night: Freezing rain likely, mainly after 10pm. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
  • Sunday: A chance of freezing rain before 3 p.m., then a slight chance of rain or freezing rain. Cloudy, with a high near 35. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Sunday night: A chance of rain and sleet before 10 p.m., then a chance of freezing rain and sleet between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., then a chance of freezing rain after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
  • Presidents' Day: A slight chance of freezing rain before noon, then a chance of rain or freezing rain between noon and 4 p.m., then a chance of rain after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
