Asbury Park Among Highest In NJ In School Administrator Pay

Asbury Park's median school administrator salary is among the highest in NJ, according to recently released state data

ASBURY PARK — If you're a principal, superintendent or administrator for one of New Jersey's 655 school districts, you can make as much as $176,367 or as little as $1. In Asbury Park, you're near the high end.

After delays caused by the COVID crisis, the state has released new information that shows how much your school district budgeted to pay principals, superintendents and administrators in 2020.

The information is part of the state Department of Education's Taxpayer's Guide to Education Spending, which shows the median salary in every New Jersey school district.

Here are the local median rate increase and decreases:

  • (20th highest increase) Point Pleasant Boro: 24.14 percent.
  • (77th highest increase) Manasquan 7.91 percent
  • (273rd highest increase) Asbury Park: 2.88 percent
  • (328th highest increase) Belmar: 2.43 percent
  • (79th lowest decrease) Point Pleasant Beach: -4.46 percent

In addition to median salaries, the state's site also shows each district's total spending, average daily enrollment and students from sending districts, the per-pupil costs and the district's total budget spending for 2020.

The median statewide administrator salary is $128,052, a 2.25 percent increase over 2019-20. Last year, the median statewide administrator salary was $125,207, a 1 percent increase over the year before.
