ASBURY PARK – Asbury Park has returned to in-person instruction.

In a recent letter, Superintendent Sancha K. Gray thanked the district for its input and support over the last several months and during the process of developing the district’s "The Road Back Restart and Recovery Plan.”

"Please know that we have been in constant communication and collaboration with the Monmouth County Health Department to ensure the continued health and safety of our school community," she said.

When your child reports to school she/he will be required to adhere to the following building safety protocols: (view video here)

• Parent must complete a daily health form for each child before she/he can enter the school building.
• All students, staff and visitors are required to wear a mask while in district buildings. The district has provided each student with two washable masks. You also may have your child wear a mask of your choosing, but they must wear a mask.
• Physical distancing signs are displayed in our hallways to indicate the proper direction of travel.
• Please remind your child to wash her/his hands throughout the day. When hand-washing isn’t possible, students are encouraged to use hand-sanitizing stations that are strategically placed throughout all buildings.
• “Wash Your Hands” 20-second reminder signs are prominently placed in all bathrooms.
• All water fountains have been turned off. However, your child may bring a water bottle with her/his name prominently displayed on it.
• Desk shields have been put in place in classrooms where physical distancing is not possible.
• Nurses have been trained to identify those displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
• Any students displaying COVID-19 symptoms will be isolated until picked up by a parent/guardian.

Additionally, per Governor Phil Murphy’s Executive Order on July 24, 2020, the district will continue to offer a “full-time” remote learning option.

Approximately 250 families have opted for full-remote instruction. When students are not attending school in-person, they will be required to login to their classes from home at the same time the classes are meeting in school.

If you choose to have your child participate in full remote learning and need breakfast and/or lunch, you may continue to pick up Grab-and-Go meals Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at either the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Upper Elementary or Thurgood Lower Elementary School.
