Asbury Park Seeking Bids To Upgrade Boardwalk

Asbury Park is seeking bids for a $400,000 job that will repair boardwalk in ongoing maintenance for iconic structure.

ASBURY PARK, NJ - Some of the boards on the city's iconic boardwak will be replaced after suffering weather- and age-related deterioration under the terms of a $400,000 job to be completed over the next two years.

The city is soliciting bids for the job and City Manager Michael Capabianco told the Asbury Park Press that this is part of a project done annually as routine maintenance. The planks are expected to last between three and seven years, depending on weather and traffic, according to a story in the Asbury Park Press..

Proposals were due this morning but more is happening in the area than new planking.

Asbury Park Boardwalk developer Madison Marquette is preparing updated designs for the Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue pavilions. Plans include adding commercial space, new restaurant offerings and "reimagined versions of existing retailers," Adam Nelson, a spokesman for Madison Marquette, told the Asbury Park Press.

The Fourth Avenue Pavilion, with nearly 30,000 square feet of rentable space, will get new commercial office space and a rooftop deck with ocean views but the Asbury Park Sun reports the proposal includes a 5,742- square-foot- reduction of the proposed roof deck and the relocation of a handicapped accessible ramp.

Nearby, the Fifth Avenue Pavilion will get a new roof-top entertainment venue that could seat more than 250.

It will contain 32,000 rentable square feet and 7,000 square feet of outdoor terraces, according to Madison Marquette.
