Food Bank Benefits From Food Drive Beginning Jan. 10

Hotel Tides is beginning its food bank to fulfill the coffers at Fulfill, formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

ASBURY PARK, NJ - The Hotel Tides Annual Food Drive to support Fulfill, the Neptune-based food bank that serves Monmouth and Ocean counties begins Jan. 10, the Asbury Park Sun reports. The drive will run for two weeks, wrapping up Jan. 24, according to General Manager Ryan Jimenez.

Last year, Fulfill donated 175 pounds of food, Jimenez said, and the drive hopes to collect more than that in 2018.

"It has become a lasting tradition of ours to be a part of this community, give back in anyway we can and encourage others to do the same," Jimenez told the Sun.

According to Fulfill, the poverty rates in Monmouth and Ocean counties continue to rise, with one in 10 people finding themselves without enough to eat. The statistic breaks down to more than 21,000 children in Monmouth and 25,000 children in Ocean.

Most needed items include; canned tuna, chicken or salmon in water, canned vegetables, brown, wild or white rice, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, canned beans, lentils, peas and unsalted nuts, Jimenez said the items and may be dropped off between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays at Hotel Tides, 408 Seventh Ave.
