A heat wave that gripped New Jersey for days was supposed to end by Monday. But before then, we got a heat index – combining the real temperature with humidity levels – that exceeded 100 degrees.
The heat index peaked at 118 degrees at 1 p.m. in parts of central Monmouth County. In the Asbury Park area, it was just a little cooler: The heat index was between 105 and 110.
