These ShopRites Near Asbury Park Now Have COVID-19 Vaccine

ASBURY PARK — ShopRite released its list of the 39 ShopRite pharmacies in New Jersey that now have the coronavirus vaccine, in stock and ready to inject. Several ShopRites nearby reportedly had it this week.

They are:

• ShopRite Pharmacy of Hazlet
• ShopRite Pharmacy of Marlboro
• ShopRite Pharmacy of Manahawkin
• ShopRite Pharmacy of Fischer Boulevard

ShopRite partnered with the federal government – the US Department of Health and Human Services – to give out the vaccine. The chain using the Moderna vaccine, which requires two shots spaced 28 days apart. There is no charge to receive the vaccination at any of these ShopRites.

As of this week, the vaccine has been in stock; all of the stores have received their initial shipments.

Due to demand, appointment availability may be limited. New Jersey's vaccine portal is also now live; you can register here to get the vaccine.

You must make an appointment to get the vaccine. Vaccines were only available to those in group 1A, which is healthcare workers and nursing home/long-term care residents, according to the state government's rules. But Gov. However, that list of healthcare workers is much broader than many realize, and includes home health aides, those who work in jails and prisons and even those who work at medical marijuana sites, as the state of New Jersey qualifies them as healthcare workers.

ShopRite is owned by Wakefern Food Corp., based in Keasbey, NJ (Woodbridge). It is the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States. There are 280 ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.

“We are excited to be part of the initial stages of this unprecedented public health campaign,” said Jeffrey Mondelli, RPh, Vice President of Pharmacy, Health & Beauty at Wakefern.

Currently, vaccines are not available for the general public. However, ShopRite anticipates expanding access to the vaccine as soon as the government enters the next phase of the vaccine’s distribution.

The next phase is 1B, which is front-line essential workers and individuals over 75, followed by 1C, which is those older than 65 and those 16-64 with medical conditions that increase the risk for severe COVID-19.

Two "megasites" will open later this week, in Gloucester County and one in Morris County. All six mega-sites are supposed to open this January:

• Gloucester County: Rowan College of South Jersey, Sewell
• Middlesex County: New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, Edison

New Jersey's 2021 vaccine time frame:
Phase 1A (January)

• Healthcare workers, who are paid and unpaid persons serving in healthcare settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials
• Long-term care residents and staff.
• Non-hospital-based healthcare personnel and residents of other long-term care settings

Phase 1B (January - February)

• Frontline essential workers and individuals over 75

Phase 1C (March - April)

• Essential workers, adults 65-74, and persons aged 16-64 with medical conditions that increase the risk for severe COVID-19.

Phase 2 (May – June)

• General population
