2 Nutley Identity Thefts Involve Unemployment, Tax Return: Police

Nutley Police: The incidents involved an unemployment claim made in someone's name and a 2020 tax return.

NUTLEY, NJ — A pair of identity thefts were recently reported in Nutley, according to police.

The Nutley Police Department released the following statements about each incident.

April 10 – “The victim reported that they were questioned by their employer regarding an unemployment claim. The victim told her employer that they did not apply for unemployment and that it must be someone using their information. An inquiry was made and found that someone had in fact applied for unemployment with the victim’s information.”

April 11 – “Officers received a theft of identity report. The victim stated that when they attempted to file their 2020 New Jersey State and Federal Tax return with Turbo Tax they were advised that the return could not be processed due to the file already being processed in January by an unknown party.”
