Belleville Cops Step Up Traffic Enforcement As School Starts
Belleville residents bombarded a BPD social media post with suggestions about where to hold traffic enforcement. See their ideas here.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville Police Department will be lending a watchful eye over local roads as the town’s public school students prepare to resume session on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
According to a BPD advisory issued Tuesday, the department has recently received “numerous complaints about vehicles speeding in the township.” As such, officers will be conducting radar enforcement details throughout Belleville starting this week.
“Consequently, we would like to remind our residents to obey all traffic laws, posted speed limit signs, traffic signals and to drive safely,” the BPD stated.

- “How about Lake St in Silver Lake… it’s a raceway.”
- “Can you please conduct radar enforcement on Garden Ave? Sometimes I think I live on the parkway!”
- “I live on Dewitt Ave on the one-way part by School 3 and the speed bumps are worn away. Everyone speeds down this street even during school hours way too fast. And also everyone blocks the end of the street where the school is and we can't get out of the street.”
- “Definitely Fairway Ave. People speed up and down the hill.”
- “Greylock Parkway from Chestnut to Washington Ave. Greylock has become the Indianapolis raceway.”
- “New Street, behind School 8 needs to have speed humps & extra BPD presence since folks always use it as a short cut to avoid the traffic light at Union Ave/Belleville Ave.”
- “Something needs to be done about the cars parking on the corner of Malone and Union! Trying to make a left out of there will end your life! The u-turns that people make for the liquor store are the worst!”
- “There needs to be a 4-way stop at the corners of Linden and Division Ave. You can't see anything with the cars parked on the corner like that.”
- “The Belmont Ave, behind the school number 4 needs a crossing guard. The cars always pass at high speed and the children do not have any security.”
- “Put a cop on Belmont Ave. You'll definitely get a lot of speeding tickets.”
- “Definitely need some radar on Fairway between Belleville Ave and Continental.”
- “Don’t forget Bernice Road. Only street in Rutan estates that goes from Nutley to Belleville.”
1 month until we are back in session....enjoy your break!
