Belleville High Students Teach Kids About Judicial System in '12 Angry Pigs'

The innocence of "Little Red Riding Hood" met the gritty world of "12 Angry Men" as students of Belleville High donned rosy pig ears for a little lesson on the U.S. legal system.

Students in the second-period musical theater class made a trip to Elementary Schools 3, 5, 7, 8, and 10 to give a brief, unique lesson about the judicial system April 28 with their twist on "12 Angry Men" entitled "12 Angry Pigs."

The play chronicled the trial of the Big Bad Wolf post-grandma-impostor incident, touching on the basics of judicial practices such as the gravity of making false accusations, judging someone without evidence and the cornerstone belief of "innocent until proven guilty."

“It was an important experience for these students to be able not only to perform in front of an audience but to demonstrate how educationally effective theatre can be; I am proud of them for their talent but also for the sense of community they fostered and the lessons they taught in working on this project,” said teacher of the musical theater class Carol Lombardi.
